Youth Of The Year Program
Youth of the Year is our signature effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy.
In the 21st-century world and workplace, leadership skills such as communication, goal-setting and teamwork are essential for everyone – especially young people preparing to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood.
Before becoming part of Youth of the Year, participants have to be recognized as Youth of the Month, first. Youth of the Month runs on an ongoing basis over the course of a year and focuses on acknowledging and making Club members aware of their own leadership abilities. Youth of the Month is a Club-driven experience that fosters leadership within the Club and in the community.
Each year, our Clubs select their own Youth of the Year among their Youths of the Month. Then, one of them is selected as the Youth of the Year of Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico. He or she becomes ambassador for our organization as well as a voice and advocate for all of our young people.
Over the decades, these individuals have exemplified the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico mission and are proof to the impact Clubs make in transforming and saving kids’ lives. As part of the awards they receive as Youth of the Year, they are awarded scholarships to help them further their educations and have the chance to represent Puerto Rico in a regional Youth of the Year event in the United States. While Regional Youth of the Year finalists each receive $10,000 in college scholarships, renewable for four years up to $40,00; the United States Youth of the Year receives an additional scholarship of $25,000, renewable each year up to $100,000.
