{"id":8906,"date":"2020-05-27T08:53:30","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T12:53:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bgcpr.org\/?p=8906"},"modified":"2020-05-27T09:14:19","modified_gmt":"2020-05-27T13:14:19","slug":"art-auction-to-benefit-children-and-youth-from-vulnerable-communities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bgcpr.org\/en\/art-auction-to-benefit-children-and-youth-from-vulnerable-communities\/","title":{"rendered":"Art auction to benefit children and youth from vulnerable communities"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<em>(San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 19, 2020)<\/em> In response to the emergency caused by Coronavirus (COVID-19), <strong>Artists for Puerto Rico<\/strong> announced a virtual art auction with more than <strong>50 pieces by local and international artists<\/strong>, to benefit <strong>Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico<\/strong>, a nonprofit organization that positively impacts thousands of children and youth from disadvantaged communities on the island.<\/p>\n<p>Artists for Puerto Rico is an initiative created to help Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017. Since its inception, artists have been invited to donate works for auction, earmarking the proceeds to a community-based organization focused on social justice. Eneida Cardona, one of the founders and co-creators of the initiative, expressed that <strong>their mission is \u201cto support the recovery of Puerto Rico, as well as its present and future of generations, by helping to finance education and art<\/strong> initiatives such as the educational program by Boys\u00a0 &amp; Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico.\u00a0 In this way, all the proceeds directly impact the communities that need us most in these times of social distancing \u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Their year the event will be virtual. All public is welcome to look at the available works of art at <strong>artistsforpuertorico.org starting Tuesday, May 19<\/strong>.\u00a0 However, the bidding period will start on<strong> Mondayday, May 25 <\/strong>through the<strong> Better World platform<\/strong>, at\u00a0 <strong>tinyurl.com\/artistsforpr<\/strong>.\u00a0 A variety of works will be auctioned, including photographs, paintings, jewelry and skateboards by artists such as Harvey Stein, Joe Castro, Paul Qyasi, Frank Fournier, David Dee Delgado, Groana Mel\u00e9ndez, among many others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico, art is one of the essential components of the educational services we offer our kids. We feel honored to be the recipient of such a beautiful effort to benefit the island&#8217;s children and youth.\u00a0 We want to highlight the importance of diaspora artists in making this auction possible. Furthermore, we appreciate the support and trust of Artists for Puerto Rico, in the midst of this new reality caused by COVID-19 \u201d, highlighted Patricia de la Torre, Director of Private Partnerships at BGCPR.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c100 percent of the money we raise will be donated, and the people who take part in the event can be sure that their money is going to an important cause: children and youth.\u00a0 This is the second year we\u2019re donating everything we raise to Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico, and we know this is the right decision, since they have education initiatives, such as Ed\u00facate en Casa, that help bridge the educational gap caused by schools closing\u201d, added Cardona.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/artistsforpuertorico.org\/\">artistsforpuertorico.org<\/a><\/strong> or on Instagram as <strong>artistsforpr<\/strong>.
