Service philosophy: Youth development model

  • Scientific model that allows us to know how youth develops
  • Established by the Search Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated for over 25 years to the search of solutions to meet the needs of young people
  • Composed of 40 assets that help develop young people to grow up healthy, to be interested in common welfare and to be responsible.

Our innovation programming is focused on the development of careers and entrepreneurship so that our participants obtain a job that grants them economic security.

Pillar Academic Support

Our educational program, Access5, is focused on children and young people setting academic goals that allows them to graduate high school and aspire to close the academic gap of children and young people from 6 to 18 years old. Participants receive daily tutoring services, reinforcement in the academic areas where they need improvement and development of the necessary educational skills to continue post-secondary studies. The participants learn to think critically, solve problems and communicate effectively. The program promotes the learning of English as the language that promotes the world economy.

Post-Secondary Trajectory Pillar

The Post-Secondary Trajectory program pillar seeks to provide participants from 13-21 years old with the support and the necessary opportunities for them to identify, initiate and complete their post-secondary education. Through a comprehensive approach, the implementation processes are carried out based on the following program components:

  • Experience as a compass
  • Transition and university progress

The Post-Secondary Trajectory program pillar seeks to provide participants from 13 to 21 years old with the support and the necessary opportunities for them to identify, initiate and complete their post-secondary education. Through a comprehensive approach, the implementation processes are carried out based on the following program components:

Career Development Program

We offer participants from 6-12 years old from the Ernesto Ramos Antonini Housing Complex the knowledge, opportunities and the necessary support to:

  • Promote tourism culture and tourism awareness
  • Identify the opportunities offered by tourism as an economic activity
  • Identify opportunities for post-secondary studies, employment and self-employment in the tourism field

 

This Club serves a Training Center in Employability and Careers. It specializes in giving young people and adults in the community practical and real opportunities around professions related to the Tourism Economy. The programmatic offer includes:

Entrepreneurship Pillar

Innovation and technology become key elements to undertake and be successful.

The Entrepreneurship Pillar consists of the implementation of an entrepreneurship curriculum designed to develop entrepreneurial thinking and skills for children and young people at three levels.

We are the first non-profit organization to have a Digital Manufacturing Laboratory for children and young people in the Isabela Club. The program offers small-scale construction workshops using digital manufacturing (3D) machines.

Family Strengthening Pillar

It is addressed to the families of Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico’s participants who live below the poverty levels. The program is focused on the two generation approach to get out of the generational cycle of poverty, improve the quality of life and increase opportunities for the future. It aims to develop a five-year family life plan that will allow families to leave the generational cycle of poverty, improve their quality of life and increase their opportunities for the future.

Our Impact

Every year, we serve more than 12,200 children and young people in 13 Clubs. Despite the deficiencies and academic lags with which many of the participants arrive, BGCPR manages to:

  • 99% of the 104 participants of the educational program, graduate from high school.
  • 96% of the participants will be promoted to the next grade.
  • 88% continue post-secondary studies.
