Virtual exhibition creates awareness about the impact of the pandemic in the communities

Children and youth present their unique point of view about their experiences

(San Juan, Puerto Rico, August 5, 2020) Using technology to raise awareness about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in communities, the non-profit organization Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR), published the virtual exhibition #BGCPRFotoChallenge: a look at the pandemic through the eyes of children, featuring a collection of pictures and messages about the meaning of the pandemic for more than 40 children and youth from different Clubs and communities on the island.

Welmo E. Romero, coordinator of the Media Centers at BGCPR Loíza and BGCPR Luis Llorens Torres, expressed that the exhibition includes the representation of the health crisis caused by COVID-19 through the eyes of children and youth from BGCPR Clubs and surrounding communities.

Among the photographs on display is one by Wilberto Mercado, a 15-year-old participant from Isabela, who exposed a photograph of a tunnel, accompanied by the phrase “The pandemic for me is like a tunnel, but in the end I know we are going to find a way out. “

“It is important to provide spaces for our children and youth to express themselves, to communicate their thoughts, feelings and needs. All this becomes more important when we are in the midst of an emergency unknown to all and with a social distancing that makes it impossible to have direct contact with them. However, our children and youth have shown great potential to deal with difficult situations, as demonstrated through hurricanes, droughts, and earthquakes. We must continue supporting them to achieve their maximum personal, academic and professional potential, ”added Romero.
