BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF PUERTO RICO CELEBRATES THE OPENING OF THEIR SECOND HEAD START CENTER

In an camaraderie atmosphere, children’s characters and music, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR) Head Start (HS) center in Las Margaritas residential complex, for families and surrounding communities is officially open.

The event was joined by families from the community; the president of the Resident Council of Las Margaritas, Luz Laza; representatives of the SP Management Corp. residential administration, the director of the Boys & Girls Club of Las Margaritas, José Santos; the BGCPR Head Start & Early Head Start Director, Nora Boschetti; the president of BGCPR, Lcda. Olga Ramos Carrasquillo; among other guests from the community.

As part of the opening events, the renowned journalist and also godfather of BGCPR, Walter Soto-León, shared with the little ones the reading of the book Nomegusta y Yonoquiero, written by Wanda I. De Jesús Arvelo and illustrated by Tere Marichal Lugo.

“Soon to celebrate 55 years of positive impact to the communities we serve, we are pleased that through the administration of eight Head Start and Early Head Start centers we can extend our services to boys and girls from an early age, as well as their families”, expressed the Lcda. Olga Ramos Carrasquillo, president of BGCPR.

“This dream, this goal is significant for the organization, especially because in the community of Las Margaritas, a few steps from the Head Start center, our Club/service center was the second to be founded of the 11 that impact the communities we serve from Mayagüez. to Vieques. Our commitment is to continue seeking and gathering resources, and being innovative in our programs to positively impact more people, so that they obtain economic security and social inclusion”, added Lcda. Ramos Carrasquillo.

For her part, Nora Boschetti, director of HS and EHS of Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico, explained that “we thank the 30 families who have received Head Start services in Las Margaritas. We trust that together with them we will be able to close the learning and opportunity gap that has affected them so much for years. Our team of professionals committed to the search for equity, justice and inclusion of the most vulnerable, and with compliance and accountability, is more than ready to receive families, walk and grow with them”.

The Las Margaritas Head Start Center impacts the communities of Santurce de Las Casas, Las Margaritas, Villa Kennedy, Parque Victoria and El Mirador. The doors of the center are also open to families with activities directing their enrollment processes, from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
