The non-profit and community-based organization Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR) will hold a beach tennis tournament to benefit its Food Program, which offers a hot plate of food to its participants as part of its services aimed at closing the learning gap and providing socio-emotional support to boys, girls, youth and adults, through 19 centers from Mayagüez to Vieques. The event will take place on Sunday, October 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Riviera Tennis Center, located between Bayamón and Guaynabo.
“Our Food Program began to take shape in the midst of our response to mitigate the impact of Hurricanes Irma and Maria on the food security of our vulnerable communities. Today, four years after being formally implemented, it continues to provide nutritious food to our participants during service hours and also in times of emergency, such as the one caused by Hurricane Fiona recently. Food is fundamental in the development, learning process and well-being of our children and young people, so maintaining the sustainability of this program is key to our mission of providing them with tools to achieve their academic, professional and personal goals and to achieve economic mobility”, says Olga Ramos Carrasquillo, President of the BGCPR
The tournament will implement four categories: Women, Mixed, Men Beginning Level and Men Intermediate Level. There is a space limit of 18 couples per category, so the organization recommends registering early to ensure participation and the opportunity to contribute to the Food Program. “The donation per couple that signs up is $100. But, it will be a family event where everyone who attends will support this program by consuming food in the Riviera Tennis Center’s bistro, while enjoying the competition, live music and a bazaar that make up other attractions of the event. We are excited about holding a fashion sport tournament to address a basic need for our families living in poverty,” added the executive.
The event is sponsored by Riviera Tennis Center, Chili’s, Isla Lab, Fine Wine Imports, ACE 1542, Clasificados Online. At the bazaar will be present: Aretes con Tacones, Spicy Colada, Al Aire Resort, Bazaar ShopLima y Pecas.
