The non-profit and community-based organization, Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR) began its BGC Week, a week in which the impact of the organization and the positive influence it has on the lives of thousands of children and young people that it serves through its 11 service centers after school. The week-long celebration runs from June 27 to July 1, 2023 and features a series of both educational and recreational activities and events within its summer program initiatives.
Olga Ramos-Carrasquillo, president of BGCPR, stated that “this week we recognize the significant impact our organization has had on the lives of the more than 90,000 children, youth, and families that we have impacted since its foundation. BGCPR has provided a safe, creative, supportive, and educational environment for Puerto Rican children and youth for 55 years. We have become a movement that helps to eradicate poverty in the country from a multigenerational approach. Through our programs and services, we strive to empower and inspire the next generation by providing them with the tools they need to succeed in life. This week-long celebration is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff, volunteers and partners who make our mission possible.”
Ramos-Carrasquillo added that “our impact metrics are added to this celebration knowing that 95% of our participants express that the experiences in the organization help them maintain high expectations, 95% indicate we reinforce their emotional security, 93% feel they are listened and their ideas count, 92% feel they learn while having fun, 90% recognize our environments are positive and safe”.
“During BGC Week, each service center hosts a variety of activities and events that showcase the diverse range of programs and opportunities offered by the organization, from sports competitions, art exhibits, educational workshops, and field trips. The goal is to foster a sense of camaraderie, promote teamwork, and highlight the incredible talents of our participants,” highlighted Ramos Carrasquillo.
