ALIMENTO AL FUTURO PROMISES THE SUSTAINABILITY OF BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF PUERTO RICO FOOD PROGRAM

The program impacts over 12,000 girls, boys and young people annually

The non-profit and community-based organization Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico (BGCPR) launches “Alimento al futuro” campaign to raise funds and guarantee food for the over 12,000 thousands of children and young people who are impacted annually through the organization service centers after school hours program, from Mayagüez to Vieques. This initiative aims to guarantee their nutrition, providing them with a solid foundation for their healthy growth and development.

In Puerto Rico, thousands of children and young people, 6 out of 10, face daily challenges due to the child poverty in which they find themselves submerged, including the lack of access to adequate food. Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico works tirelessly to address this issue and provide support to the community. Through its food program, the organization ensures their participants have access to nutritious and balanced meals, helping them focus on their education and personal development.

“Alimento al futuro” campaign aims to raise funds to expand and strengthen Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico food program that has managed to distribute, since its creation in 2019, almost half a million plates of food. With these additional resources, the organization will be able to serve more participants, reach out to the communities it serves and beyond, and provide meals year-round, even during the summer.

“At Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico, we believe our children and youth deserve a fair opportunity in life, one in which they have opportunities for optimal development accompanied by a good diet. Without food it is not possible to be happy, to learn, it is not possible to play, it is not possible to enjoy childhood and youth“, said Olga Ramos Carrasquillo, Esq., president of BGCPR. “Our “Alimento al futuro” campaign is a call to action and to unite in our commitment to guarantee that no children and young people from our service centers goes hungry and can continue playing while learning. Together, we can make a difference in their lives and build a brighter future for our island,” added Ramos Carrasquillo.
