BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF PUERTO RICO RECOGNIZED AS A VETERANS FRIENDLY ORGANIZATION

Boys & Girls Clubs de Puerto Rico (BGCPR) received the “Veterans Friendly” recognition from Veterans with Puerto Rico (VCPR), a company dedicated to coordinating housekeeping services for veterans 65 years of age or older or their widows.

BGCPR is a non-profit and community-based organization with more than five decades of service on the Island, offering educational, development and innovation programs and initiatives to thousands of children and youth, and their families. Since its foundation, it has impacted over 80,000 participants, of which 9 out of 10 live under federal poverty levels and of which a large percentage is under the protection of single-parent families and/or grandparents and grandmothers.

“We appreciate the distinction Veterans with Puerto Rico makes to BGCPR, recognizing the work and impact our programs and services have on the communities we serve from our 11 service centers or Clubs -as we call them-, located in Aguas Buenas, Arecibo, Bayamón, Carolina, Isabela, Loíza, Mayagüez, two in San Juan in Las Margaritas and Llorens Torres public housing complexes, San Lorenzo and Vieques ”, expressed Osvaldo Mártir, Brand Manager of the organization and who, together with a group of participants, received the recognition.

In addition, he added that “our service continues to impact the communities that need it most. From an early age with the administration of 9 Head Start and Early Head Start centers in San Juan, after-school programs and services for participants from 6 to 18 years old, and the employability program called EMPower that impacts youth populations adults from 18 to 35 years of age, and adults up to 60+ years of age ”.

“The population of veterans, both on the island and in the diaspora, have the responsibility of maximizing resources to support communities, especially those that live below the poverty level. Fortunately, our collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico allows us to contribute to a greater good, hand in hand with leaders with a long history of social impact. For this reason, we recognize them with the “Veteran Friendly” distinction, expressed José Ismael Irizarry, president of Veterans with Puerto Rico.
